SE, SEL, or Limited: Which Ford Flex Model Is Right for You?
As a midsize SUV, the 2019 Ford Flex seats six or seven people, depending on the interior configuration. The large, boxy vehicle, which is part of the first generation released in 2009, offers three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. Each level builds off the previous one, adding more safety, technology, and amenities. But how do you know which model works best for your lifestyle and needs? SE Trim
As the base trim, the SE comes standard with 17-inch wheels, a keyless entry pad, and 60/40 split-folding second-row and 50/50 split-folding third-row rear seats. Power comes from a 287-horsepower V-6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 287 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. It also comes with front-wheel drive, as all-wheel drive is not an option with this trim.
Pertaining to technology, this trim comes standard with the SYNC smartphone integration system, which includes a USB port, voice command recognition, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and Ford’s MyKey. The MyKey feature allows you to program preset maximum speed limit, audio volume, and seat belt reminders.
SEL Trim
In addition to the features found in the SE trim, the SEL trim includes 18-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, push-button start, proximity key entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats. Upgrades are available and include all-wheel drive, a panoramic glass sunroof, navigation, and second-row bucket seats.
If you opt for the 202A Equipment package, you receive leather-trimmed first- and second-row seats, blind-spot monitoring, a premium seven-speaker audio system, a power liftgate, and rear cross traffic alert. It also includes a 110-volt household power outlet. For infotainment, this trim includes two additional USB ports, Siri Eyes Free iPhone integration, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and the SYNC 3 touch-screen system.
Limited Trim
The top-of-the-line Limited trim comes with 19-inch wheels, LED taillights, power-folding mirrors, power liftgate, power-adjustable front seats, a three-prong power outlet, and leather first- and second-row seats. You also gain a 12-speaker Sony audio system. HD radio, voice-controlled navigation, rear cross traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.
Upgrades available on the Limited trim include a twin-turbo V-6 Ecoboost engine, which produces 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. You must have all-wheel drive if you want the Ecoboost engine, but with this option, you can tow 4,500 pounds. You can also add a panoramic glass roof and second-row bucket seats.
Another option is the 301A Equipment package, which includes a heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seats, ventilated seats, automatic parallel parking system, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning. Additional upgrades include 20-inch wheels, roof rails, a tow package, black trim, and upgraded leather upholstery.
